It needs to be sharper to use as an asparagus knife as we intended. Once it is sharpened it will be perfect.
This tool is perfect for harvesting asparagus. It reduces the amount of bending over as compared to the knife I was using. I tried it on some dandelions and I was able to get the tap root out easily. Well worth the money spent as I have found multiple uses for this one tool!
I have a Bachelor's & Master's degree in Horticulture. In my career, I have managed greenhouses, taught college students, and landscaped golf courses. I have a large garden & and a large landscape at my home. This tool is worth every penny. Once you have learned the most efficient way to use it - it is indispensable. For smaller, fibrous root weeds, sink the tines shallowly at an angle (just until the tines are no longer visible), give it a twist and they're up and out of the ground. Now, for taprooted weeds. Firstly, the chances of getting an entire dandelion root is slim. Those roots can be 4 feet deep/long. To remove taprooted weeds, push the tool straight down and use it to pry the weed out. Do this in small increments or the root will snap. Be patient and you will be rewarded. After all, gardening IS an exercise in patience. One of the reviewers said that it only works well after irrigation/rain. Well, that true of ALL gardening. I used to buy Corona hand tools. After trying DeWit - it is the brand I will buy. After all, who knows Horticulture better than Holland?
The inner edges of the fork are nicely sharp enough to easily cut the root of dandelions, but without having to worry of cutting oneself. Very sturdy!
Great tool, used it for hours the day I got it and it performed great. Strong, long and sharp enough to slip easily into the dirt to reach deep under the roots. A lifetime warranty too. Iíd suggest weeding the day after a rain. Love it.
