Ideal for deep digging in confined spaces. The tool is made from durable tempered boron steel and features an ash hardwood handle. As with all DeWitt garden tools it is excellent for the job. I will buy another so I don't have to share.
I love the way this feels in my hand, sturdy, sharp and up for any job. Nothing like those flimsy trowels that want to bend if your ground is too dry. It should come with a leather hanging strap for the price, my only complaint.
This shovel does an amazing job for getting past roots and giving the necessary leverage needed for a transplant. It is super long, far better than a regular trowel for this job! No need to get out a large shovel for 1 plant, and doesn't disturb the other plants around it. I have 2 other DeWitt trowels, each exceeds expectations. These are so well made, and I was tired of replacing cheap bendable trowels. These feel solid as a rock, the edges are sharp, and I would recommend their products to anyone looking to buy their last trowel. Well worth the price!
I have purchased 4 DeWit tools and this by far is my favorite and most used followed by Japanese hand hoe for weeding. This tool is particularly important for me as my soil has rocks and narrow and long trowel is the best when digging and re-planting. Any shovel or wider trowel used to catch the rocks. With this tool I can dig them out easily. I also love it being so long - essential for planing bulbs. As all DeWit it is sturdy and sharp.
Wish it had a narrower point. I use it for digging weeds and some huge roots in soil more clay and rocks than anything else. It's strong enough I have not yet bent it but a sharper point would mean it would go in more easily. I have a couple of DeWit's wider garden trowels, but I find I have to be careful, as the stem between the blade and the shovel can bend. Must quickly note nobody else's garden trowel has been able to stand up to the use I put it through, this one has, and even the wider ones take more abuse than any other trowel I have tried. Am experimenting with grinding the end of it sharper. So far so good, it's an improvement.
