My wife brought home a birdbath pedestal, but no bowl to go with it. She liked the look of the pedestal. I started looking for a bowl to go on the pedestal. The pedestal is light weight, so a concrete bowl was out of the question. This bowl is light weight, yet durable. It goes great with the pedestal we had. I like that the basin is a very smooth finish which will make cleaning it it very easy.
You need to level this for it to work. But after you support the lower portion, it will spray very well, high and wide, but unfortunately it empties the bird bath in a few hours. I'll save it for a larger body of water another season.
I would advise if you place this in the sun, to get one of the light colors. I have the dark gloss green and the water gets really hot.
Light weight, not cement, makes it easy to pick up and wash out. Very smooth surface in bowl is easy to clean with hose. Rough edge gives birds a safe perch for drinking. Bowl is about 3" deep which is enough to hold water for a while, but not too much for the small birds. I added a smooth rock in the middle to weight down the bowl and to give a place for birds to splash bathe. Whether drinking from the ground, perching on the side, or splashing, birds just love this product and I love it too. So I bought a second one.
I bought this together with the†Achla Designs FB-14 Ring Stand†. They look very nice in the flower bed. We have extremely hard water where we live, and the first time I let the filled bird bath evaporate, I was appalled at the white calcium coating the inside of the bowl. HOWEVER, it didn't stick - apparently the gloss finish repelled the hard-water stain. I rinsed it with the garden hose and voila!, it looked like new - no soaking in vinegar, no scrubbing. I love it.
