Superior roots lead to superior plants every time. Unveil the secret of Deep Rootrainers! The grooved cell structure guides the main root straight down to the ample drainage opening. Its distinctive design facilitates "air pruning" for optimal root development. When roots encounter air, they die off, encouraging the growth of new, healthy roots. This system includes 32 reusable cells, each 5 inches deep, along with a holding tray and a propagating lid. It's ideal for use with seeds, seedlings, or cuttings and is suitable for almost all plant types. Prevent pot-bound plants with cells that open for effortless plug removal and undamaged roots. Designed for flat storage, these cells can be reused year after year. They come in a green color to simplify recycling. Haxnicks has been creating innovative garden care and plant protection products for their English customers since 1994. Product dimensions: 14.75"W x 9"D x 3.5"H, weight: 1lb. Pack size: 1.

We have used these for sweet peas, tomatos and other plants we would either like to have deep roots or plants which do not like to have their roots disturbed. They work well and with their "book like" opening make for easy transplanting. I would have given the 5 stars but they are a bit awkward in getting them to stay upright when only a few are placed in the holder, and sometimes they are difficult to get them closed the correct way to keep the soil in, so you have to pay attention.
I have purchased 3 of these over time and they work very well. I used my regular seed starting trays initially which are the standard size and are relatively shallow. The issue with the Root Trainer product is the material they are made of. I treated these very gently and they rip and are damaged even with little handling. My tomato, pepper, and Eggplants grow much faster than with the other products. My plants are healthy and beautiful. These won't last long and I am trying to come up with a way to reinforce the ones I have. I have found a similar product from another company and I ordered them, they also have replaceable cells. I'm hoping that these will be more durable, time will tell. Rootrainers should resolve the issues with the product being so fragile, you aren't able to buy replacements for the cells which would be a very good idea.
I purchased these to start sweet peas indoors, and I will revise my review after I've had a chance to use them. But upon first opening them today: They are very fragile - almost all of them are already cracked or frayed/splintered which is very disappointing. I was very careful and even so, they just don't fit together nicely, and they certainly don't fit in the tray like the photo shows. I had envisioned reusing these over the years as they are so expensive, but I think it would really take some kid-gloves to use them more than once. Be sure not to pay full price - I got them on sale for 16, and even then, I think it's a bit much for something that seems disposable. We shall see how they work out!
So nice to start my own garden plants seasonally. This little kit comes in so handy to help me get started. Much better to start your own plants and much healthier plants. Good produce. Happy Gardening!
†was a little concerned after reading some reviews regarding condition of product on receipt. Like the others, mine arrived in a plastic bag, but it was in good condition and unharmed. I have read some comments about the "flimsiness" of the "plastic", but bear in mind, the cells are not plastic, but made from corn. If you're concerned about putting more plastics into our garden sheds, this is a great option and I'm willing to put up with a little flimsiness for the associated benefit. Looking forward to using this (with care) over the next few years!
